Welcome Events at the Window on America Center in Lutsk!






On March 27, 2013 the Information Day was organized at the Volyn Research library in Lutsk.



That kind of event gave the WOA Center visitors (about 25 persons) the opportunity to learn more about the resources of the Center, its services and as a result attracted new visitors to the Center.







On that day there were presented new arrivals to the Center for audience seeking information about the United States of America.



  During the day the visitors were given valuable information of the various services in learning English language in different ways (using board games, the innovative language learning program Trace Effects, audio language course Playaway).






The visitors also got deep information about the electronic reading at the Center. 




With great pleasure we presented our work on Amazons Kindle format and the group of visitors continued to improve Kindle reading experience at the Center.

A Virtual Travel the 50 States of America.


On March 21, 2013 a group of students together with the English language teacher Svitlana Horbach visited the Window on America Center in Lutsk to explore the fifty states of the United States of America.






Multiple resources of the Center were utilized to produce an effective learning about a particular state. 









During the meeting the students investigated different regions of the United States and prepared reports on the US states of their choosing.


Students shared their findings in presentations they delivered to their groupmates. 

The following activities and information had been selected with the goal – to learn more about the different parts of the United States of America.

At the Window on America Center in Lutsk: Roundtable Debate “Today’s Families”.

      On March 19, 2013 the WOA Center in Lutsk hosted a discussion on Family Values and Family Manners and gathered 7 students of English language Department from Volyn National University.
In this marriage and family lesson, students were given an opportunity to strengthen their communication skills by exploring and discussing the ideology associated with creating a family. Students used the numerous resources of the Center that helped them to define vocabulary terms and answere study questions based on assigned text.


The students had effective and lovely communication and learned about the importance of family and marriage

WOA Center Modern Technologies as a Link Between Pupil and Teacher.



On March 18, 2013 the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a creative meeting for the 17 teachers of English language from local and regional schools.

The aim of the meeting was to create possibilities for developing and improving teachers’ practical and theoretical courses using the WOA Center resources.

During the presentation the audience learned about some powerful ways in order to implement modern technology in the classroom. 





Of great interest was the innovative language learning program – Trace Effects, the use of board games when learning language, numerous books with the information on CDs on methods of teaching. 




To improve the electronic reading the teachers were  proposed to try modern device -  the Kindles in teaching and learning English.





The teachers were acquainted with a wide range of resources available at the Center that could help to improve educational outcomes.

We believe that the meeting has been a success, regarding both the use of the numerous resources of the Center and the process of teaching about the United States of America in creative and effective ways!

Discover America Through the Art at the Window on America Center in Lutsk!


On March 14, 2013 8 students of English language Department from Volyn National University had a round table discussion “American Art”.
 That lesson introduced the students to the elements of the American arts and taught them to use appropriate art-related vocabulary when talking and discussing paintings.



The second part of the discussion was devoted to learning about different artists and their style of art, mainly American impressionism, American renaissance and the modern mode.




 
At the end of the meeting each student described one of the paintings. The task of the audience was to determine the style of presented paintings and discuss the painting using the vocabulary terms.






The lesson on America Art gave the students a vast amount of knowledge about the United States of America in general, helped to understand and appreciate the beauty of American culture, history and people.

Discussion: What Should We Know When Working With Kindles.


On March 12, 2013 the group of 12 librarians from Lutsk and Volyn Region gathered at the Center to talk over the use of modern technologies in the work with readers.


One hour presentation covered how the WOA Center used modern technologies to impact on ed States of America, mainly:

  • Learning through playing board games,
  • Using the language learning program Trace Effects,
  • audio language courses.








The main part of the meeting was devoted to presentation about the electronic reading and the present audience could improve Kindle reading experience. We covered some of the current hot topics in ways to use Kindles when working with readers.


At the end of the meeting librarians came to one conclusion – the wonders of Kindle - the amazing little device – are great and “How can one be a good student and not be a reader?” Education is an ongoing process. And the WOA Center in Lutsk can help to make the process of study more effective.

Great Possibility to Enjoy the Benefits of E-books Readers

 On February 28, 2013 a group of Volyn Oblast librarians visited the WOA Center in Lutsk to enjoy the benefits of e-books readers –Kindles and IPads, to share ideas for future use of these devices in the work with visitors.



For an hour the WOA Center coordinator made a presentation about:




    how to navigate e-books readers –Kindles and  IPads;


    how to get started using the devices;

    how to find books, etc.

At the end of the meeting the e-book fans shared their ideas on how that modern technology could influence the process of education
