Sharing Knowledge and Experience on E-Readers at Volyn Research Library!


 In the frame of the seminar on February 27, 2014 the Window on America Center in Lutsk coordinator made the presentation “E-Readers at the Library in Ukraine”.
 

The main emphasis was made on the following topics:
1.      the nature of e-books and why they are important to add to library collections;
2.      the ins and outs of licensing, purchasing, and lending e-books;
3.         how to navigate e-books readers –Kindles;
4.        how to get started using the devices;
5.        how to find books, etc.





The librarians (about 30) were proposed to get information about a vast variety of automated information resources.









The present audience showed big interest in getting information about the electronic reading at the Center. 

With great pleasure we presented our work on Amazons Kindle format.

We truly believe that Kindle compatibility will allow Ukrainian libraries to serve millions of new readers and extend their valuable community role.

A Closer Look at the Window on America Center in Lutsk Resources on Education in the USA.


On February 26, 2014 the WOA Center took part at the Information Day that was organized at the Volyn Research library.



The event attracted 16 young visitors interested in educational materials, technologies and related services.




The presented up to date literature on Education in the USA helped to get information on education programs, to learn about the College of Your Choice and to get into it!

Happy Valentines Day Wish from the Window on America Center in Lutsk!



 «Saint Valentines Day» meetings took place at the Window on America Center in Lutsk and gathered about 20 people. The events were devoted to the background of the holiday, its symbols. 

Lovely talks about the Romantic Couples that had kept love alive throughout history (Marie and Pierre Curie, Mark Antony and Cleopatra, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Bonnie and Clyde, Bred Pitt and Angelina Jolie etc.). were of great interest among the audience.






Speaking and Writing - the debate but in writing - activities on the topic of Saint Valentine’s Day helped the visitors to feel included in this holiday of romantic love. 





 The audience discussed relationships, marriages, commented on the love quotations. 



There was plenty for everyone to enjoy!

Folk Music Talks at the WOA Center in Lutsk : Representation of American Folk Music and its Musicians.



On February 11, 2014 pupils from gymnasium № 18 expanded their folk music knowledge and discussed the key points about that kind of music including what it is, what instruments are played, its history, and its important styles.

 
The discussion was led by Kristi Mientka , the American Peace Corps Volunteer in Lutsk.











During the meeting 24 visitors researched the history of folk music - watched video performances, examined how aspects of American folk music and Ukrainian music are alike and different. 





In addition the audience learned about the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources at the Center. 


The focus was made on the resources that help educators in becoming more familiar with modern technologies associated with learning English language.





 










  


Kristi Mientka played the mandolin and the present audience had fun of singing together and built community through songs singing.

Series of Events at the WOA Center in Lutsk Mark Black History Month.



Each year beginning on February 1, an entire month of events were planned honoring the history and contributions of African Americans. 


. Black History Month was also marked the Window on America Center in Lutsk with a program of events including talks, discussions, paper show and meetings.
 

More than 35 people  gathered at the Window on America Center in Lutsk  to have a discussion to honor Martin Luther King Jr. as a leader in the American civil rights movements.



The paper show “August 28, 1963 March in Washington” was displayed at the Center so that the audience could learn more about the growing struggle for civil rights in the United States of America.


The meeting was finished with Martin Luther King Jr.’s "I Have a Dream" speech, a spirited call for racial justice and equality.

Explore the WOA Center Modern Opportunities to Teach English!


On that day the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a meeting for the 13 teachers of English language from local and regional schools.




During the presentation the audience got acquainted with the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources at the Window on America Center in Lutsk..


Of great interest among the teachers were modern technologies that provided intense and meaningful practice of language in the classroom and at home:
1.      board games;
2.      language learning programs;
3.      Kindles in teaching and learning English;
4.      the audio books;
5.      audio language courses.


The results of the meeting suggested that the acquaintance with the WOA Center numerous resources, games can be used for the useful practice.
