November 13, 2011 in the WOA center in Lutsk there was the meeting of our English Community Club. The topic of discussion was “Environment. Environmental protection”. 15 persons were present, 2 Americans among them (Dominic Huether, John Mark). Among Ukrainians there were people of different occupations: students, pupils, teachers of English, a doctor, a writer, interpreters etc. We started our discussion (through the presentation) with general notions of environment, its kinds and world most famous organizations of Environmental Protection. Then we examined in detail the problem of Chernobyl in Ukraine and watched three short videos about it. We also answered some interesting questions like:1) For all of the money going into research for alternative energy, what are the results? Is too much being spent on this?
2) How do you think the growth of population and the strain/stress on resources might change our eating habits in the future?
3) What can be done to encourage recycling and discourage littering in Lutsk/Ukraine?etc.
All the visitors were happy to share their suggestions how to change the environment for the better.
