Discover New Methods in English Language Learning with the Window on America Center in Lutsk.

“Technology and language learning” was the topic of the meeting that gathered English language teachers at the WOA Center in Lutsk.

The teachers from Volyn region visited the Center to learn about its resources, numerous programs, meetings and clubs. The main emphasis was made on the resources that help the people to teach and learn English language. 

The innovative language learning program Trace Effects, board games, audio language course Playaway – these resources were presented to the audience. 

It is a well-known fact that reading in a foreign language is one of the best ways to extend your vocabulary, see grammar in action. To improve the electronic reading we propose to use the Kindles in learning English.

 During the meeting the present audience learned much that one could find in the center, its services, etc. We believe that the acquaintance with the WOA Center is the first step towards the future collaboration, happy teaching and learning!

That is what people did at the WOA Center in Lutsk during 2 day program on February 20-21, 2013. The event attracted 37 students of Pedagogical College who enjoyed all manner of board games.

The idea to get together and learn language came in 2012, with the goal of finding new people with which to launch programs such as the meetings at the WOA Center.

The games themselves have a wide variety of themes. There’s something for everyone.

Such meetings attracted a wide variety of people who enjoyed old classics like Monopoly, 10 Days in the USA, Scrabble - one of the most popular board games in the world.

On February 12, 2013 the Window on America Center in Lutsk gathered 15 people to celebrate the of Day St. Valentine.

Despite the fact that the basic idea behind the holiday remains the same every year the WOA Center visitors gather to talk about the holiday, to celebrate romance, relationships and affection.

 It is a good tradition to come to the Center to get more information about the holiday.

Holiday decorations (red hearts, cupids, etc) predominated at the Center.

The most interesting for the present audience was a possibility through numerous resources presented on the exhibition of books “St. Valentine’s Day in the USA”.

During the meeting the visitors listened to the good music and performances of American singers.

The exhibition of books “St. Valentine’s Day in the USA” will run till February, 18, 2013!

On February 07, 2013 the Window on America Center in Lutsk was visited by 9 Volyn Oblast librarians.

The meeting was based on the presentation about the work of the Center, its services, resources and great number of programs.

When we started to talk about technology and tech support of the Center, and that was when we got to the interesting part of the meeting – to learn about the Kindle features, the book collections and the main points how to use the device.

We are the new generation of librarians and want to do our job effectively, so during the meeting we got acquainted with modern info technology.

 And the first step to seeing librarians more effective, happier and more productive was made!

The WOA Center in Lutsk Gives Glimpses into American History.

On February 04, 2013 35 people gathered at the WOA Center in Lutsk to pay tribute and  to listen to the story of Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a national hero of the United States, Poland, Belarus and Lithuania.

The audience showed great desire to discuss American History, mainly the period of time from 1775 till1783 – the American Revolutionary War when Thaddeus Kosciuszko joined Washington’s army in the fight for the freedom of the North American colonies.

Also the audience was proposed to watch the Audio Podcast about the General.

 The current exhibition of books “Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Age of Revolution” gave detailed information about that period of time and described Kosciuszko as the "purest son of liberty."(Thomas Jefferson).

After the event the audience was offered to make a tour through America and to learn more about American society. A rich resource for the study of U.S. history - American political cartoons entitled “Join, or Die.” - was of great interest among the visitors.
