Teachers at WOA Center in Lutsk!

On March 30, 2016 WOA Center in Lutsk work starts from the meeting with teachers from local school №25

.
 They had learned about WOA Center resources: different books, audio CDs. They also got acquainted with new technical devices that are in the center (iPads and Kindle) and with board games.








The presentation showed the audience fragments of events with American and Ukrainian guests that were organized at the Center.












The meeting showed that the teachers were interested in the WOA Center materials and resources




Meeting with RaeJean Stokes, Second Secretary, Cultural Affairs Section at the U.S.



   On March 30, 2016 RaeJean Stokes, Second Secretary, Cultural Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv visited Window on America Center in Lutsk.





She told us how she became a diplomat, about her work at U.S Embassy in Kyiv, about herself, her family and life.

 It was a surprise to all of us that she has  Ukrainian roots loves Ukrainian borsch and west Ukraine very much.




Students, members of our clubs and Pease Corps volunteer Sam Abrams were present on the meeting.









During the meeting, the present audience asked different questions and got answers.

Reading Club with WOA Center in Lutsk!


A Labyrinth of Words with Window on America defied logic and displayed the unthinkable as visitors learned about real people with supernatural powers. 










Dean Karnazes- who ran 50 marathons in every state in 50 days. Liew Thow Lin- who is the real life version of Magneto and can stick metal objects to his body magnetically. Isao Machi- who has super reflexes and can cut bullets in half traveling over 200 MPH. Stephen Wiltshire- who has a photographic memory and can draw entire cities in a very detailed way after seeing it only once. 






The abilities of Qigong Master Jo, Wim Hof, Hu Qiong, Natasha Demkina, Ben Underwood, Michel Lotito, Tim Cridland and Jyoti Raju were also talked about.

Meeting at Woa Center

On Wednesday March 30, 2016 at 4 p.m.  at WOA Center in Lutsk we will have a meeting with  RaeJean Stokes, Second Secretary, Cultural Affairs Section at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. She'll talk about hesself, her work and life. We'll ask her a question that interest us. Everyone can join us.

A Virtual tour to Portland, Oregon

U.S. Cities Club at Window on America Center in Lutsk took a virtual tour to Portland, Oregon this evening. 












The presentation  was held by Sam Abrams, American Peace Corps Volunteer  and Julie Piskorska, the Window on America Cente  visitor.She shared her own impressions of her trip to Portland.









The audience learned a lot of information and at the end they all wanted to visit Voodoo Doughnuts and take a walk through the beautiful Japanese garden. Along the way they learned about Powell's, Pittock Mansion, the music scene, films that were filmed in Portland, Lovejoy Bakers, Portlandia, the farmers market, the Moda center, the art museum, and more.

The Window on America Center in Lutsk Welcomes English Language Teachers!



Today, on March22, 2016 the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a meeting for the 27 teachers of English language from local and regional schools.















The present audience learned much that they could find in the Center, bord games,  books or films on many subjects ranging from history to culture to politics and more.
















The meeting showed that the teachers were interested in the WOA Center materials and resources, mainly books and CDs on methods of teaching.










The main goal of these meetings with teachers is learning about technologies that can influence the process of education.

We believe that modern technologies of the WOA Center can be used in planning lessons.

An excursion for pupils at WOA Center in Lutsk!

March 21, 2016 the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a group of pupils (11 persons) together with English language teacher.











They learned about the Center, its resources, numerous programs, meetings and clubs. The slide show presentation showed the guests fragments of events with American and Ukrainian guests that were organized in the Center. During the presentation, the visitors asked questions and got answer on them.















The audience was proposed to master language skills while playing different games.










They were very satisfied from our meeting and promised to visit our center again.

St. Patrick's Day!

Today, on March 20, 2016 at WOA Center in Lutsk at first time we have celebrated St. Patrick’ Day.
About 40 people participated in our meeting. 







The meeting was divided into 2 parts. The first part – a slide show demonstration- was devoted to the background of the holiday and symbols. It was led by Sam Abrams, the America Peace Corps Volunteer.
The second part: we played different games, quest, ate traditions green food and watched different episodes about St. Patrick’s Day.








Thank you everyone who took part in celebration St. Patrick’s Day. It was wonderful day!

English for beginers with the paticipants of ATO


Our Library with foreigne languages department and WOA Center in Lutsk have started a new project “English for beginners with the participants of ATO”. 










About 20 people wanted to learn English. They had a great chance to improve pronunciation, speaking skills and grammar


The collections of books, American movies, education games and other resources of WOA Center in Lutsk will help them to study English.







The classes are held by Lavrenyk Mariya, the librarian of foreigne languages department twice a week at Window on America Center in Lutsk.

Atlantic City! US Cities Club ‪






U.S. Cities club showcased Atlantic City this evening.

 
The audience learned about the famous Boardwalk, some of the hippest clubs that it has to offer, 
the Absecon Lighthouse, the African American Heritage Museum of Southern NJ, the World War I memorial, characters from Boardwalk Empire, including Al Capone, Chalky White, and NuckyThompson who all had huge influences on the shaping of Atlantic City, and more.

The Labyrinth of Words with Window on America Center!

On March 13, 2016 at reading club, the numerous visitors read and talked about famous people who were born on spring.






The students from local military lyceum joined us and took a part in our meeting.
The audience learned about Ronaldinho, Malcolm X, The Notorious B.I.G., John F. Kennedy and others









Sam Abrams, the American Pearce Corps volunteer in Lutsk was the leader of the club.
A wonderful conversation was had and interesting quotes were read.

Students at the Window on America Center in Lutsk!


On March, 10 at WOA Center in Lutsk we have meeting with groups of students from local college.






The audience was proposed to participate at the presentation about the Center. Modern technologies of the Center, its resources, numerous programs, meetings and clubs were of great interest among the students.




At the end of the presentation, the students had a great opportunity to ask questions about the Window on America Center in Lutsk and get full answers on it. 



 Each received a small present from  Window on America Center in Lutsk a calendar for 2016 year.

Effective Professional Development at the WOA Center in Lutsk!

           On the first day of March 2016 the WOA Center in Lutsk hosted a meeting for more than 20 English language teachers of English language.


The WOA Center stuff talked about the Center resources, great amount of programs. The main emphasis was made on programs that are organized in the frame of the Year of English language in Ukraine.

The present audience learned much that they could find at the Center, mainly newly received board games and books on methods of teaching.

The presentation showed the audience fragments of events with American and Ukrainian guests that were organized at the Center.

We are interested in very close further cooperation on future.
                                      

Great Kobzar''s Works were Heard in English at the WOA Center in Lutsk!


The pupils from school № 1 joined the Window on America Center in Lutsk in cultural celebration of the poetry of Taras Shevchenko.
The lesson on the great Ukrainian poet was held at the Center on March 01, 2016.

It was dedicated to the study of the heritage of the prominent writer. The lesoon featured the materials concerning the life and the works of Great Kobzar.
The pupils read English translations of Taras Shevchenko’s works.

That event expended knowledge of this great Ukrainian poet.
