We Wish You a Merry Christmas Our Dear Visitors - English language teachers!

On December 24, 2014 the group of English language teachers from local and regional schools  gathered at the Window on America Center in Lutsk to talk over the use of modern technologies in the work with pupils.

The meeting sparked a lot of ideas and practical advice on how the WOA Center used modern technologies, mainly:
  • Learning English through playing board games,
  • Using the language learning program Trace Effects,
  • audio language courses.
At the end of the meeting the teachers, generating a lively discussion, came to one conclusion – the WOA Center in Lutsk is absolutely the best place to learn English using modern technologies.

The information resource Center "Window on America" in Lutsk ​​received a significant gift from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine - new resources!




Colorful and informative books, American classical movies, educational games – wonderful present for those who wants to explore, practice and maintain English language skills.

Events at the WOA Center in Lutsk to Support and Promote the Rights of Persons With Disabilities.



People from many countries worldwide participate in various ways to promote the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year on December 02, 2014 the Window on America Center in Lutsk organized a paper show “Ability not Disability”.



The exhibit is displayed at the Window on America Center in Lutsk and aimed to:

• show the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of people with disability;

    promote a positive image of people with disability.


 


The visitors are proposed to watch the documentary.


The film tells us a story about life of people with disabilities in the United States and Ukraine.





During these days the Window on America Center united people (about 30) in acknowledging the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability.

The exhibition will be displayed until December 09, 2014!

Words of Thanks From Window on America Center Visitors!



During November 24-26, 2014 a group of pupils gathered at the WOA Center in Lutsk to learn  about the Pilgrims, the Indians, the Mayflower, and the First Thanksgiving.

During the meetings the audience explored the Thanksgiving Day history, the First Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving today.



The book exhibition “Thanksgiving Day in the USA” contained up to date books and articles in which this holiday, its customs and traditions were described. 




The best of the WOA Center resources were presented and helped the audience to understand the history of the United States of America, mainly the national holiday – the Thanksgiving Day!

Children about the United States of America!






 On October 19, 20, 23, 2014 three different groups of pupils in grades 6 through 8 together with English language teachers visited the Center.

The presentations displayed the United States of America with wonderful resources for learning. Useful facts about US states, US geography, famous people, famous places, and history – were the main topics of discussion among pupils.






The first meeting brought together the group of pupils (19) who had a great chance to explore America's diverse history.




The second meeting that was held on October 20, 2014 the audience (20) learned about Washington D.C - the city of museums, monuments, and political power.

 
The third gathering was led in discussion format so the pupils (21) could talk over a range of topics in American history and utilize interesting and engaging sources that are available at the Window on America Center in Lutsk.

Language Learning with Modern Technologies at the WOA Center in Lutsk!



On November 04, 2014 a group of young teachers of English visited the WOA Center to get acquainted with the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources at the Window on America Center in Lutsk..
The meeting attracted the audience who enjoyed the ways of teaching language in different ways.



Of great interest among the teachers were modern and unusual technologies that provided meaningful practice of for young learners – board games.





The audience lovely participated in discussions and came to the right conclusion – English language learning games are the perfect approach in teaching for those who love learn English by playing.

31.10.2014 - Closing Halloween Party at the WOA Center in Lutsk!



The last meeting in the series of events “Halloween Celebrations” that took place on October 30, 2014 gathered 9 students together with the English language teacher Svitlana Horbach. 

The students celebrated this Halloween with educational activities: answer questions to create a silly, spooky story, played the most popular Halloween games - pin- the-tail-on-the-donkey and bobbing for apples. 
 Besides having fun, students reviewed basic vocabulary, learned about the background of the holiday.

Halloween book exhibit provided rich opportunities to learn about the holiday.

The Window on America Center in Lutsk Welcomes English Language Teachers!



During these days the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a meeting for teachers of English language from local and regional schools.
The two days meeting was a great opportunity to:
  • share academic progress and growth,
  • discuss strategies to support students' learning
  • discuss issues that may be interfering with students' learning
The main goal of these meetings with teachers is learning about technologies that can influence the process of education.


During the first day the audience was proposed to participate at the presentation about the Center, its resources, numerous programs, meetings and clubs. The main emphasis was made on the programs that help the people to practice their English.
The second day had more practical character: the teachers could try how to use modern technologies that provided intense and meaningful practice of language in the classroom and at home. The audience discussed factors that can affect learning, such as the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources.

We believe that free access to the Window on America Center resources will result in positive influences on the process of English language teaching and learning.

Halloween is Coming to the Window on AmericaCenter in Lutsk!



On October 26, 2014 the WOA Center in Lutsk started a series of events devoted to Halloween Celebrations.
The WOA room was decorated in the traditional Halloween colours, orange and black.

Iruna Kulesha and Ruslana Lishchuk were the leaders of the event. At the beginning of the meeting the audience was proposed to listen to the informative presentations about that holiday so that to be more aware of the background of it, customs and traditions, etc.



The present audience made this Halloween special by carving the pumpkins with step-by-step guide.



The second part of the party was devoted to the most popular Halloween traditions - one of the most popular is called pin- the-tail-on-the-donkey and bobbing for apples.













Overall, all the visitors said they enjoyed the party and learned more about that festival.

A Journey to Washington DC!



On October 20, 2014 the group of Students from  Gathered at the Window on America Center in Lutsk.

Students explored Washington, D.C.,  identified various landmarks such as the White House and Washington Monument.

In this Washington, D.C. lesson, students collaborate to research monuments located in the city

The documentaries that were shown during the meeting helped the students to learn facts about the geography, history, economy, and people of the nation's capital – Washington DC.

The Window on America Center in Lutsk Celebrated World Teacher’s Day!



The information resource Center  - Window on America Center in Lutsk – continues the series of meetings for the  teachers of English language from local and regional schools .



 We took the opportunity to use World Teacher’s Day to show our English Language teachers our gratitude, thanks and appreciation for all that they do. 


The event began with the presentation about the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources at the Center.






Then a number of teachers gave speeches and shared their experiences with the audience.

The event was a great success.

Want to Learn about American Music, Share Your Knowledge? Let's Get Started at the Window on America Center in Lutsk!





On October 01, 2014 the Window on America Center in Lutsk gathered music lovers to discuss the main points about American music including what it is, what instruments are played, its history, and its important styles; shared their knowledge on the subject of American Music.

 
During the meeting the visitors researched the history of music - watched video materials, discuss how aspects of American music and Ukrainian music are alike and different. 

In addition colorful paper show MUSIC SCENE AND HEARD made the meeting more informative. This exciting exhibition featured about 12 posters from music icons

The exhibition will be on display till October  07, 2014 .
