It’s Time to Welcome Christmas 2016 at the Window on America Center in Lutsk!


For many people all around the world, Christmas is one of the most joyous times of the year. It’s a time for families and friends to gather together, and for many Christians it is one of the holiest days of the year.

And for many Ukrainian people – the Window on America Center visitors - December 25 became a strong tradition to gather at the Center and celebrate the birth of Jesus.






Today December 21, 2015 we started celebration and about 20 pupils came to the Center to mark the holiday.








The present audience learned more about the Christmas Holiday in the USA and around the world, mainly the UK, France Australia etc,
  


















Different activities were played.
Relaxing instrumental Christmas holiday music was enjoyed with a good company and friendly atmosphere.




The mood was really festive with carols and Christmas songs. : “Christmas is coming”, “White winter”, “Let It Snow”, and others.

Educational Advising Center „Osvita“ Provides Services to the Window on America Center in Lutsk Visitors!

On December 10, 2015 the students from Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University expanded their knowledge on Education USA and discussed the key points about issues related to international education and exchange opportunities.


The presentation devoted to admissions process to U.S. Universities was led by Andrew Hatalyak, the Director of OSVITA Educational Advising Center.

During the informative presentation the main emphasis was made on the following topics:

  • the US system of education and the process of entering to universities and colleges in the USA,
  • the possibility of receiving financial aid from universities, international organizations and private foundations,
  • finding courses or curricula in universities and colleges in the United States of America;
  • information about study materials for preparation for the tests, etc.


At the end of the meeting the present audience asked questions about education in the USA and got profound answers.

A Trip to Salt Lake City!

U.S. Cities club with Window on America took a trip to Salt Lake City. 


Slang was taught, "This is the Place" Heritage Park, The Leonardo, The Tabernacle, Temple Square,Gilgal Sculpture Garden, The Grand America Hotel and other interesting places and things about Salt Lake City were discovered.

Ability not disability


Week of Persons with Disabilities was Held at the WOA Center in Lutsk.
People from many countries worldwide participate in various ways to promote the International Day of Pearsons with Disabilities.
This year the Window on America Center in Lutsk organized a paper show "Ability not Disability".
 
During the period of time from December 01 till December 13, 2013 the exhibit wil be displayed at the Center and aimed to:
•             show the skills, abilities, contributions and achievements of people with disability;
•             promote a positive image of people with disability.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is annually held on December 3 to focus on issues that affect people with disabilities worldwide. That is way right on that day the Window on America Center visitors were proposed to watch the documentary about life of people with disabilities in the United States and Ukraine made by Vadim Kastelli.
During these days the Window on America Center in Lutsk will unit people acknowledging the contributions, skills and achievements of people with disability.

The event worked to support and promote the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

New Group of English Language Teachers Became the Window on America Center in Lutsk Visitors!

Today on December 01, 2015 English language teachers were invited to explore the Window on America Center in Lutsk Resources designed to enhance knowledge of the United States of America.


The WOA Center staff talked about the Center, its resources, numerous programs, meetings and clubs. The main emphasis was made on the programs that help the people to practice their English with native speakers, mainly Clubs meetings led by Sam Abrams, the American Pearce Corps Volunteer in Lutsk.





During the meeting the present audience learned much that one could find in the center, its services, etc. 


We believe that the acquaintance with the WOA Center is the first step towards the future collaboration!

The Thanksgiving Came Early with Window on America Cenetr in Lutsk!




During November 23, 24, 25, 2015 groups of pupils from local schools # 23, 20, 1 gathered at the WOA Center in Lutsk to learn  about the Pilgrims, the Indians, the Mayflower, and the First Thanksgiving.






During the meetings the audience explored the Thanksgiving Day history, the First Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving today.


The book exhibition “Thanksgiving Day in the USA” contained up to date books and articles in which this holiday, its customs and traditions were described.






The best of the WOA Center resources were presented and helped the audience to understand the history of the United States of America, mainly the national holiday – the Thanksgiving Day!

Your Mark Twain Education Begins at the Window on America Center in Lutsk!

Today on November 23, 2015 the Window on America center in Lutsk hosted a meeting focused on Mark Twain’s life, comical satire.
A group o f students were proposed to learn more and view Clements family generation, a timeline of important events throughout the life of Samuel Clemens – the man who become Mark Twain.
During the presentation the audience learned about the numerous resources at the Center that one needed for teaching and learning about the life and works of Mark Twain.
We also welcomed questions about Twain’s life and were glad to give information and profound answers.

Explore the United States of America through a Lens of the Photocamera at the WOA Center in Lutsk!


"America through the photography” was the name of the art photo exhibition, which was officially opened at the Window on America Center in Lutsk at beginning of November 2015 and still attracts people!




Tandura Evgen extremely intelligent and noble person with a good sense of humor – the visitor that showed the libray user the life of America through the lens of his camera.



His hobbies – history of the USA, art, classical music, literature. He is the reader of our libray since 1974.



He studied at the New York Institute of Photography. Thanks to profession he traveled all oceans and visited all continents except Australia. His impressions of America he showed through the photo negatives!






TThe photo shows the life of Houston (Texas) and New Orleans (Louisiana).

Learn about American cities with the Window on America Center in Lutsk!

Yesterday evening with Window on America the «travelers» took our U.S. cities club to New Orleans. 
Hurricane Katrina, plantations, beignets, po boy sandwiches, bayou jambalaya, Mardi Gras, the French Quarter, Bourbon Street, and more were talked about.








The informative and always lovely meeting was ended by decorating Mardi Gras masks.

Dallas, Texas with Window on America!





On November 10, 2015 the Window on America Center visitors took a virtual tour to the southwest of the United States of America to learn about cowboys, chili, the Ritz Carlton, Zero Gravity Amusement park, Pioneer Plaza, the music scene, and other entertainment venues.





The event was led by Sam Abrams, the American Pearce Corps Volunteer in Lutsk and Olya the English language teacher and everyday visitor, who co-presented Dallas and prepared different activities for the audience.










Thanks again to everyone for organizing another wonderful event in the library.

A Warm Welcome to the Window on America Center in Lutsk for English Language Teachers!

On November 10, 2015 the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a meeting for the 26 teachers of English language from local and regional schools.




During the presentation the audience got acquainted with the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources at the Window on America Center in Lutsk.






Of great interest among the teachers were modern technologies that provided intense and meaningful practice of language in the classroom and at home.

The meeting has been specially designed to help the teachers to:

refresh and revitalise the teaching strategies and techniques
update classroom skills
learn how to integrate technology into lessons
deepen the knowledge of  the latest collection of English language learning resources




 The results of the meeting suggested that the acquaintance with the WOA Center numerous resources can be used for the useful practice and review of language lessons.


We believe that modern technologies of the WOA Center can be used in planning lessons.
