The celebration of the Thanksgiving Day!
November 27, 2011 in Lutsk WOA center there was the celebration of the Thanksgiving Day. 14 persons were present, two Americans among them (Melissa Krut, Terry Mettison). Celebration was held in an atmosphere of friendly communication, combined with the traditions of Americans on this holiday. Our visitors prepared a lot of different kinds of cookies and home baking and the most interesting thing is that a real very tasty homemade chicken was also on our holiday table. There was prepared a presentation about this holiday, we discussed the history of it, its customs and traditions and the peculiarities of the celebration of this holiday in the USA .

A visit to the College of Arts and Culture!
November 23, 2011 I visited Volyn College of Arts and Culture and communicated with students of the 1st and 2nd year of study, the faculty of librarianship. 22 students and two teachers were present. There were demonstrated two presentations for them:
1) Electronic readers “Kindle: possibilities, advantages and disadvantages and their use for libraries.
2) Next library: there were used some experience from the conference in Lviv for WOA heads and directors of the libraries (September 14-17, 2011).
They also got to know about the work of WOA center in Lutsk , opportunities, facilities and information that one can get there.
Future librarians were questioned, some of the questions were:
1) What do you think is it possible that in the future usual books will be replaced in eBooks ?
2) What would you like to change in our current library system? etc.
Opinions were divided but in general it can be noted that the young future librarians are ready for changes, they would like to try something new and creative that can become an impulse for the development and prosperity of our libraries.

An excursion for teachers of English!
November 21, 2011 in the IC “Window on America ” in Lutsk there was the presentation of the WOA center for teachers of English from Lutsk and regional schools (4 persons). The meeting was held by the WOA Center coordinator using modern technologies, mainly slide show. During the presentation the teachers learned much that one could find in the center, its services, etc.
The detailed information was provided to pay teacher’s attention to the Center Resources that gave current information about the United States of America . The teachers got acquainted with the schedule of working of the center, got to know about the clubs and events that one can visit coming to the center. They also got acquainted with new technical devices that are in the center (iPads and Kindle).
Movie Club: "Singing in the rain".
November 20, 2011 in the IC “Window in America ” in Lutsk there was a meeting of the members of our Movie Club. We watched a film “Singing in the rain”. This is great Hollywood musical, a comedy, romance with a lot of great musical numbers. 16 people were present, two Americans among them (Terry Mettison, Dominic Huether). There were people with different occupations: most of them were students, pupils and teachers but there were also a constructor, an entrepreneur, specialist of tourism etc. After watching the film we discussed it answering some questions about the movie.

English Community Club: "Environment. Environmental protection".
November 13, 2011 in the WOA center in Lutsk there was the meeting of our English Community Club. The topic of discussion was “Environment. Environmental protection”. 15 persons were present, 2 Americans among them (Dominic Huether, John Mark). Among Ukrainians there were people of different occupations: students, pupils, teachers of English, a doctor, a writer, interpreters etc. We started our discussion (through the presentation) with general notions of environment, its kinds and world most famous organizations of Environmental Protection. Then we examined in detail the problem of Chernobyl in Ukraine and watched three short videos about it. We also answered some interesting questions like:
1) For all of the money going into research for alternative energy, what are the results? Is too much being spent on this?
2) How do you think the growth of population and the strain/stress on resources might change our eating habits in the future?
3) What can be done to encourage recycling and discourage littering in Lutsk/Ukraine?etc.
All the visitors were happy to share their suggestions how to change the environment for the better.

Movie Club "Schindler's list"!
November 07, 2011 in Window on America center in Lutsk there was the meeting of our Movie Club. 20 persons were present, 2 Americans among them (Terry Mettison, Dominic Huether). We watched the film “Schindler’s list” (2nd part). In the end we discussed it answering some questions about the film. All the visitors were impressed by this film, and it has caused a lot of emotions (positive and negative too). Most people appreciated the film for the highest score.

Halloween!
October 30, 2011 in Lutsk WOA center there was the meeting of our English Community Club. The topic of the meeting was “Halloween”. 28 people were present, 4 Americans among them. There was prepared a presentation about the main Halloween traditions. It included: What does the word “Halloween” mean, the main symbols and customs of this holiday, the history and origin of this festival. We also tried to create the atmosphere of this holiday by means of the book and article exhibition, creative pumpkins with candles and of course the Halloween costumes. We also ate the real American apple pie (one American volunteer baked it). And we continued the celebration in the central park of our town where in that time there was the “Salo Festival”. We communicated in English about Ukrainian traditional meals. The weather was perfect and our club meeting was very interesting, unusual and all the visitors were very satisfied of it.
