On
September 8 , 2013 the Window on America
Center in Lutsk gathered music lovers to discuss the key
points about American folk music including what it is, what instruments are
played, its history, and its important styles.
The
discussion was led by Kristi Mientka and Terry Mattison, the
American Peace Corps Volunteers in Lutsk.
During the
meeting 23 visitors researched the history of folk music - watched video
performances, examined how aspects of American folk music and Ukrainian music are
alike and different.
Kristi Mientka played the mandolin and the present
audience had fun of singing together and built community through songs singing.
