Speaking Club Closes Series of Events “September 11, 2001 Attack on the World Trade Center”.

During two weeks more than 60 people came to the Window on America Center in Lutsk to reflect about the tragic events of that day.

New Images and other printed resources on the Morning of September 11, 2001 helped the visitors to learn more about series of attacks upon the United States of America on that day.

                                         

 

On September 22, 2013 was the last day of the Paper exhibition and on that day 25 people came to remember those who died, honor those who keep the country safe.

Lutsk Window on America Center Hosted the 3rd InterRail Tour of EYP-Ukraine.

In the frame of the 4th InterRail Tour a unique and innovative event took place at the Window on America Center in Lutsk.

  

Two day seminar (September 16-17, 2013) gathered more than 80 youngsters who made 4 committees. 

During these days the committees discussed issues of economy, culture, politics, ecology and society. Working language was English.

Also that kind of event gave the active youngsters opportunity to learn more about the resources of the Center, its services and as a result attracted new visitors to the Center and the library.

 The valuable information was given, manly about the various services in learning English language in different ways (using board games, the innovative language learning program Trace Effects, audio language course Playaway).

The WOA Center Visitors in Lutsk Marked Anniversary of September 11, 2001 Attacks.

During the period of time from September 9 – till September 12, 2013 more than 30 people gathered at the Window on America Center in Lutsk, for the Paper Show New York, September 11, 2001 Attack on the World Trade Center.

New Images and other printed resources on the Morning of September 11, 2001 helped the visitors to learn more about series of attacks upon the United States of America on that day.

The present audience discussed the September 11 attacks, talked about what happened on that day, why it happened.

In keeping with a tradition begun last year the display will be open till September 20, 2013.

Teaching English with Modern Technologies at the Window on America Center in Lutsk.

On September 10, 2013 the Window on America Center in Lutsk hosted a meeting for the 20 teachers of English language from local and regional schools.

 During the presentation the audience learned about the latest collection of English language learning and teaching resources at the Center.

The WOA Center coordinator presented the resources to help educators in becoming more familiar with modern technologies associated with teaching and learning English language.

Believe that the use of free up-to-date educational resources of the WOA center and  modern technologies can increase educational productivity - the key success factor in teaching/learning process.

“Music Around the Globe May Sound Different” was the Topic of Discussion for Passionate Music Lovers at the WOA Center in Lutsk.

On September 8 , 2013 the Window on America Center in Lutsk gathered music lovers to discuss the key points about American folk music including what it is, what instruments are played, its history, and its important styles.

  

The discussion was led by Kristi Mientka and Terry Mattison, the American Peace Corps Volunteers in Lutsk.

During the meeting 23 visitors researched the history of folk music - watched video performances, examined how aspects of American folk music and Ukrainian music are alike and different. 

Kristi Mientka played the mandolin and the present audience had fun of singing together and built community through songs singing.

The Window on America Center in Lutsk marked 'I Have a Dream' anniversary!

On September 1 st , 2013 the Window on America Center in Lutsk gathered 17 visitors who joined Sunday meeting for discussion “Martin Luther King Jr. at 50-year anniversary of March on Washington”.

The event was designed to shed light on some historical moments in the USA-  the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom that took place in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963.

The paper show “August 28, 1963 March in Washington” was displayed at the Center so that the WOA visitors could read "I Have a Dream" speech, a spirited call for racial justice and equality and learn more about the growing struggle for civil rights in the United States of America.

At the end of the meeting the visitors watched the film “To Kill a Mockingbird” and discussed the racial concerns that Harper Lee addressed in the movie.

 

 

E-Readers at the Library!

On August 20, 2013 the Window on America Center visitors and Volyn Reasearch Library workers took part at the webinar on how to use e-books, register them.

 

People and the world are changing so we have to change our libraries too. 13 people were present at the webinar and produced a lot of ideas.

By attending the webinar participants could learn:

the nature of e-books and why they are important to add to library collections;

the ins and outs of licensing, purchasing, and lending e-books.

After the presentation  the WOA Center coordinator made a presentation about:

•    how to navigate e-books readers –Kindles;

•    how to get started using the devices;

•    how to find books, etc.

At the end of the meeting the e-book fans shared their ideas on how that modern technology - E- readers - have tremendous potential to entice readers to learn and to read more.
